Your QR code

A static QR code: it never expires and doesn’t depend on our site. Scan-test it from a printed proof before you go to print.

Smart ways authors use QR codes

  • In the back of your book. Link readers straight to your review page, your next book or your newsletter sign-up, the moment they finish reading.
  • On bookmarks and postcards. Hand them out at signings and events, with a code that goes to your Amazon page.
  • On flyers and posters. Library talks, book clubs and local stores are great places for a code that opens your author website.
  • Inside nonfiction. Link worksheets, videos or bonus resources so your book stays useful.

Four kinds of QR code for authors

  • Link: opens a web page. The most useful for books.
  • Text: shows a short message, like a thank-you or a hidden bonus line.
  • Email: opens a new email to you with the subject filled in, handy for book club or speaking requests.
  • Contact card: saves your name, email, phone and website to a phone’s contacts. Great on business cards and event tables.

Use a link you control

A printed QR code can’t be edited, so if the link changes, the code breaks. The safest choice is a page on your own author website, for example yourname.com/review, which you can point anywhere later. Your website is also where you can collect emails, which no retailer will give you.

See how many people scan it

Tick “Add tracking” and the link gets UTM tags. If your website uses Google Analytics, scans will show up under the source “book” and medium “qr”, so you can tell which campaign brought readers in. Tracking only works on links to websites you can measure, such as your own site.

Print it so it scans

  • Print it at least 2 cm (0.8") wide. Larger is better on posters viewed from a distance.
  • Use a dark code on a light background with strong contrast. Don’t reverse the colors.
  • Leave a quiet margin around the code. The download already includes one.
  • Choose higher error correction if the code will be printed on textured paper or might get scratched.
  • Always test with two or three different phones before you print a full run.
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do these QR codes expire?

No. They’re static codes: the link is stored in the pattern itself, so they keep working as long as the page they point to exists. They don’t depend on our website.

Can I put a QR code inside my book?

Yes. Many authors add one to the back matter that links to a review page, newsletter sign-up or their next book. For eBooks, a clickable link works better, so include both.

What size should a QR code be when printed?

At least 2 cm (0.8") wide for something held in the hand, like a book or bookmark. For posters, make it larger: a rough guide is one tenth of the distance people will scan from.

Can I track how many people scan my QR code?

Yes, if it links to a website you can measure. Tick “Add tracking” and scans will show in Google Analytics with the source “book” and medium “qr”.

Can I change the link after printing?

Not with a static code. To keep that flexibility, link to a page on your own author website and update that page whenever you need to.

Is the QR code free for commercial use?

Yes. You can use the codes on books, covers and marketing materials you sell. There are no fees or attribution required.
